So, CHVRCHES just came out with a new CD. Again, I'm going to say go to Wikipedia if you want to know about the band themselves. The music kinda channels the 80's but, like, in a completely non-cheesy way. It's a chick singer with male backups and lots of synth and electronic musical devices. And sounds.
Anyway, this album is fckn awesome. Like really, really great. Why, you ask?
1. Why is The Bones of What You Believe awesome?
a) The singles never get old.
b) Every song has well-written lyrics so they don't just rely on the novelty of the unique electro-ness
c) Those good lyrics form a really interesting and AWESOME thing with the singer's sweet little girl voice.
d) all of the above
If you chose d, you would be CORRECT
If not, you have really shitty test-taking skills.
Let's get into this a little bit.
When I say "good lyrics" it's about the details and the concepts. As for details, I have not come across a single cheesy line or one that just sounds grammatically awkward. I have noticed no forced rhymes and no blatant cliches. For example, when I hear "Gun": "You had better run from me with everything you own, 'cause I am gonna come for you with all that I have." I just appreciate that she wanted to say the same thing twice but smartly and comfortably switched the words to where you weren't hearing the same thing twice.
As for concepts, I really love the fact that much of this album is a warning of "stay away from me" or kinda mad. Like I said, her voice is really soft and high, and she just lets it be that. She doesn't try to add any grit or riffs; she sings how she sings. That, coupled with the whole warning thing is just a pretty cool dynamic to me.
I bleed out, what the fuck were you thinking?
Lungs and Night Sky are probably my favorites of the new ones.
Lungs
How long, til you
Leave it
You should know that
We’re alone this time
Keep your-
Self a secret
You should know that
I will sell you a future you don’t want
Like I did last time
I won’t go slow
All the things you tell yourself
Offer no resolution
You know that
This will break us
But you push us
As far as we can go
Taking
Every chance to
Find solutions
That never make anyone happy
We are done this time
You don’t owe me
Take a
Final took at me
Take it and drink it in
Breathe through me
Fill up your lungs with us
I will keep e-very-thing
You give me
Til the time
We let go
Breathe through me
Fill up your lungs with us
I will keep e-very-thing
You give me
Til the time
We let go
Keep me
In your eyeline
Keep believing
What you said before
I won't
Change direction
I will tell you
That everything’s moving too slowly
Just another lie
One more untruth
You won’t ever see through me
You will still drink it in
Breathe through me
Fill up your lungs with us
I will keep e-very-thing
You give me
Til the time
We let go
You know that
This will break us
But you push us
As far as we can go
Taking
Every chance to
Find solutions
That never make anyone happy
We are done this time
You don’t owe me
Take a
Final took at me
Take it
Night Sky
I will carry you and give you life
I will cover you and show you the way
It's a sequence that you never learned
It's a lesson I will never forget
I can hear you in the overtones
Just an echo of the promise we made
Change the future, we can travel time
Or make us blind so we can never look back
We can never look back
[Hook:]
I'm the night-sky
I'm the fire in your eyes
And I want you
Now and for all time
I'm the cold heart
I'm the secret that you hide
I'll be listening until you decide
[Verse 2:]
I communicate in simple strings (take your time)
I'm the only one who gave you the truth (speak to me)
Once you leave me you were really gone (far and near)
Give me something to remember you by (always be)
All that's here is what you left behind (majesty)
Slowly moving in the back of my mind (can't forget)
Take a moment to remember me (and our ways)
Make me blind so I don't ever look back
Only in your name
I will ne'er be free

Blue October's Sway (preview)
So I just realized that Sway came out. I've been working too much. I was really excited for this album and I just now...never mind.
I'm only on the third song. Mostly it sounds like they're staying true to themselves. I like it a lot so far. I'll need a couple more listens to fully get into it, I think. None of the three have stood out yet. But like I said, I'm only on the thir...shit okay now it's the fourth.
Listen to this:
"Close my eyes,
feel you sigh,
the desperate aching wonder
will you ever,
ever let me off my knees
Wide awake,
like a dream
as simple as a secret being told
told to everyone but me"
I can't get over Blue October's lyrics. I love this music.
Just go listen.

K'Naan: Country, God, or the Girl
K'naan is Somalian. He makes really awesome music. If you want like, a lot more personal info on him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K'naan there it is.
He did the FIFA Wavin' Flag thing. He does a lot of shit with other artists, I've noticed. But his own shit is some good-ass shit.
The first song I was blessed enough to listen to by K'naan was Simple. It's got such an atmosphere to it. I couldn't find a version on youtube that wasn't live, so I would very, VERY highly recommend that you look it up and listen to it yourself.
I've only spent (a LOT of) time with his album, God, Country, or the Girl. Every single song makes me jam the fuck out and it's really awesome. I can't wait to get into Troubadour and The Dusty Foot Philosopher.
There is a lot of variety to what's on this album. Some songs are really poppy and dancey, "The Sound of My Breaking Heart". Then there's the cute and well-written songs like "70 Excuses". Whatever the feel of the song, the lyrics are never lacking.
Alright seriously go listen to K'naan.

I Can't
I turned on this song looking for answers. I was thinking maybe there was a secret I would hear somewhere.
It only thickened all that I'm choking on.
The love you don't feelWhen you're holding me

Loser- Beck
Because I think everyone needs a good, fat dose of this song every once in a while.
In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I’m out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
Kill the headlights and put it in neutral
Stock car flamin’ with a loser and the cruise control
Baby’s in reno with the vitamin d
Got a couple of couches, sleep on the love-seat
Someone came sayin’ I’m insane to complain
About a shotgun wedding and a stain on my shirt
Don’t believe everything that you breathe
You get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve
So shave your face with some mace in the dark
Savin’ all your food stamps and burnin’ down the trailer park
Yo. cut it.
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(double barrel buckshot)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
Forces of evil on a bozo nightmare
Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
’cuz one’s got a weasel and the other’s got a flag
One’s on the pole, shove the other in a bag
With the rerun shows and the cocaine nose-job
The daytime crap of the folksinger slob
He hung himself with a guitar string
A slab of turkey-neck and it’s hangin’ from a pigeon wing
You can’t write if you can’t relate
Trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate
And my time is a piece of wax fallin’ on a termite
who's chokin’ on the splinters
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(get crazy with the cheese whiz)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(drive-by body-pierce)
(yo bring it on down)
Soooooyy....
?em llik uoy t'nod yhw os ,ybab resol a m'I rodedreP nu yos
[It's the Chorus backwards]
(I’m a driver, I’m a winner; things are gonna change I can feel it)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(I can’t believe you)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(Nlehh...)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(Sprechen Die Deutsch hier, Baby!)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(know what I’m sayin’? )
